I always notice the environment around me, if it’s how the clouds look today or if it’s listening to all the sounds that I’m surrounded by. It plays a huge part of how I perceive the world and sound helps me communicate to this world.
Hearing wellness is taking responsibility for the sound you intimate into your life but also the noise you generate out into the world.
Sound helps me connect to the world and to myself. Whether it’s the sound of leaves rustling in the wind, waves crashing on the shore or Above & Beyond playing at a London Summer Festival – sound has the power to make me appreciate the moment and being alive.
Metallic beat for some reason, provokes the mood to go forward.
I am passionate about sound because life is simply too precious to ruin it with ugly loud noise. As life’s white noise gets louder and more insistent – seeking the right noise, or quiet becomes more important.
Being comfortable and in tune with my ears and the sounds around me – on my terms – no pain, no wincing, able to hear what I want when I want without distractions or pollution.
I’d like to say silence, but that’s probably disqualified, as it’s not a sound. And it does get rather boring after a time. So it’s probably the sound of a human voice from whomever I’m having a conversation with. It saddens and annoys me that so many places have a level of background noise that makes it difficult to talk.
It’s appreciating the positive sounds that make up our world, doing what we can to minimise the negative or destructive sounds around us, and looking after our hearing so it can continue to serve us.
I like the sound of water touching the shore at night, it gives me a total sense of relaxation opening my mind to everything but what’s on this world. Serenity is something I’m really enjoying lately whenever possible.
I feel that there is almost an injustice in the world, witnessing the way that the world has left those with hearing reduction behind in the sense that it simply does not accommodate their preferences. This is both in a physical way in terms of social spaces & activity facilities, but also in a social sense where people often don’t talk about or understand it.
